When representatives of the Make A Wish foundation’s UAE office visited Amana Healthcare in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi a month ago, they had expressed an interest in extending their support to the patients they interacted with during their visit there. Badr Al Ali, a patient with locked-in syndrome, used his eyes as a medium to communicate his wish to attend the 2015 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix event. Upon hearing about it Maryam Khamis Al Ali, an Arabic teacher by profession and also a ventilated patient, expressed a desire for the same.
The team at Make A Wish UAE graciously took on their request and set to work towards making it happen. They were succesful in arranging for special VIP passes for both patients to see the races along with the Amana Healthcare team. Dr. Masab AbdAlhadi, Special Intensivist at Amana Healthcare (Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi), also made himself available to join Badr and Maryam for this exciting experience. Both Badr and Maryam expressed their gratitude towards Make A Wish UAE to have had made the arrangements to make this day possible for them. In addition to having their wishes were granted in style, they got to experience the F1 races up-close in the comfort of the VIP boxes through the sound reducing glass panels (as shown).
