What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus, first identified in clusters with pneumonia symptoms in Wuhan city, Hubei province of China. Most of the cases were epidemiologically linked to the seafood and animal market.

What are the symptoms?

  • Sore throat
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Shortness of Breath
  • These symptoms do not necessarily mean you have COVID-19. They are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

FAQ

Preventive methods are still unknown, but it is recommended to:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Wash your hands when you get home and when you get to work.
  • Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.
  • Avoid contact with sick people.
  • Avoid animals (alive or dead), animal markets, and products that come from animals (such as uncooked meat) .

It is likely that the COVID-19 originated in an animal species, and then spread to humans.

Person-to-person transmission has been reported, but it is not yet understood how easily this happens.

Other human coronavirus strains are spread from person to person through contaminated droplets from a person who is sick with the illness (through coughing or sneezing) or contaminated hands.

No, there is currently no available vaccine that protects against COVID-19.

There is currently no specific treatment. Treatment aims to relieve symptoms while your body fights the virus. You’ll need to stay in isolation away from other people until you have fully recovered.

  • Avoid shaking hands and just wave.
  • Wash hands with soap and water.
  • Avoid close contact with people and public assemblies.
  • When sneezing, cover your nose and mouth with the inside of your elbow or using a tissue instead of your hand.
  • Avoid hugging or kissing others.

If you feel sick with fever, cough, or have difficulty breathing upon return, you should:
