Amana Healthcare Medical and Rehabilitation Hospital is the first healthcare provider in the UAE to be designated as a member of the National Stroke Association’s Stroke Center Network (SCN).

SCN, which has been a cornerstone program of the US based National Stroke Association since 1996, is an alliance of organizations committed to developing centers of excellence for acute and rehabilitative stroke care. SCN members represent stroke centers in the US, Australia and Saudi Arabia, at all stages of development and size. Stroke is the second leading cause of disability in the UAE[i]. If treated in a timely manner and with proper rehabilitation, a person can eventually return home and as close to their previous level of function and participation as possible and desired.

“Being a member allows us to draw on the expertise of the network to maintain and deliver the highest standards of post-acute rehabilitation care,” said Mark McGourty, CEO of Amana Healthcare Medical and Rehabilitation Hospital. Members can benefit from exclusive accredited and non-accredited professional education programs and community and patient education materials.“We see this as a significant step towards establishing world-class standards in the UAE and the opportunity to introduce best–in-class practices that can help address one of the country’s most pressing health concerns,” concluded Mark McGourty.
